NEWCOMERS

Welcome New Members and Visitors!! We are here to make you feel welcome and try to acclimate you to St. James Episcopal Church. The Newcomers Team sponsors a number of events throughout the year, as well as welcomes everyone and tries to answer any questions you might have. How do you get involved? May we suggest:

Newcomers Sunday School Class occurs periodically with priest and lay leaders offering an orientation to St. James and the Episcopal Church.  This is a big Q&A time. It is a chance to meet other newcomers while serving as a gateway session, leading to more in depth series and/or Adult Inquirers Classes.

Adult Inquirers Classes are offered once a year for those who would like to be confirmed, received, or renew their baptismal vows. They are also for those who would simply like to know more about the faith and practices of the Episcopal Church. If you would like to attend, please contact the Rev. Marya DeCarlen.

Newcomers Dinner occurs twice yearly in December and May at the home of The Rev. Marya DeCarlen and Donald Bumiller.  This is an informal opportunity to share with other newcomers in a relaxed setting.

  • Sunday worship and Adult Formation classes
  • Church School– assist on a team with rotating responsibility for Sunday School, ages 3 through junior high school
  • Special events – help with and attend Square Dance (October) Block Party (September)  Bean Suppers, (November and March) Holiday Fair, (November) Annual Auction raising money for mission and outreach (April) Game Nights, Lenten Series
  • Bible study usually on Tuesday evenings: fellowship and prayer
  • Clean up Day – a spring or fall clean up project sponsored by the property committee
