Serving at Church
Saint James has many opportunities to serve this parish and God.
In Worship
-
Young people are invited to serve as acolytes and help lead worship by carrying the cross or torches (candles), and by holding the gospel book for the priest.
-
These volunteers care for the altar, vestments, vessels, and altar linens of the parish. Altar Guild members prepare the sanctuary for services, including adorning the altar with flowers, and clean up afterwards.
-
Choir members help lead worship by raising their voices in song and forming a solid foundation for other voices to match.
-
Greeters welcome worshipers with bulletins and answer questions to help people feel at home.
-
These people bring the elements of bread and wine to the altar at the beginning of the Holy Communion portion of the service.
-
These lay people come forward to read scripture or prayers.
